Central Bucks families with children in multiple grades should circle two dates for the 2026-27 school year: Monday, August 31, and Tuesday, September 1.

Kindergartners and students entering sixth, seventh, ninth and 10th grades will report to school on Monday, August 31, according to the Bucks County Courier Times. All other students, including those in grades one through five, eighth grade and 11th and 12th grades, start a day later on Tuesday, September 1.

The split schedule means a household with, say, an incoming kindergartner and a third-grader will send one child off Monday and the other on Tuesday.

What's behind the staggered start

The two-day rollout tracks directly to the district's "Realign & Redefine" restructuring, which takes effect this fall. Central Bucks is shifting to a K-5 elementary, 6-8 middle school, and 9-12 high school model, according to the district's grade realignment page published March 27.

Sixth graders across the district's five middle schools, Holicong, Lenape, Tamanend, Tohickon and Unami, will walk into a new building for the first time. Ninth and 10th graders at Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, and Central Bucks West are also navigating a restructured high school. The district is giving those transition-year students a day to settle in before the full student body arrives, according to the Courier Times report.

New superintendent at the helm

Dr. Joanna Wexler, who started as superintendent on Monday, July 6, is overseeing her first opening day. The school board approved her five-year appointment at a special meeting on Tuesday, April 14, following a national search. She previously served as assistant superintendent at Great Valley School District.
