BC Cares Pumpkinfest returns to the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doylestown Township on Saturday, Oct. 24 and Sunday, Oct. 25. The two-day festival features professional pumpkin carving, live music, food trucks and a youth contest.
The event runs noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the National Historic Landmark on Swamp Road. Proceeds benefit BC Cares Educational Foundation, a Bucks County nonprofit that funds youth development programs and educational grants.
Saturday's main draw is a six-hour professional carving competition, according to Patch, which first reported the event details. Carvers transform oversized pumpkins into sculpted works of art while visitors watch. A panel of celebrity judges picks a grand prize winner, and attendees can cast votes for a People's Choice award.
Live performances and food trucks round out the Saturday lineup.
Sunday shifts to an evening format. Lighted jack-o'-lanterns go on display, a youth carving contest opens, and live music continues. Organizers encourage kids to come in costume.
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for ages 6 to 12 and free for children 4 and under. Passes are good for each day of the festival.
The foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) serving Greater Bucks County, grew out of the former CB Cares Educational Foundation. According to the group's website, BC Cares has awarded more than $100,000 in learning grants and more than $25,000 in scholarships across the Central Bucks School District. Stephen Albert, the foundation's founding director emeritus, led many of those early efforts.
The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, at 130 E. Swamp Road, is a working history museum that has produced ceramic art tile from local Bucks County clay since 1898. The site sits on a nine-acre county park with parking, restrooms and a community garden.
