Doylestown landed on a list of the five most charming and walkable downtowns in Pennsylvania, according to travel publication Islands.

Writer Makayla Maxwell highlighted the borough's historic architecture, the Mercer Mile and locally owned shops along South Main Street, including Doylestown Bookshop and Main Street Marketplace. New Hope also made the top five. The publication did not detail its methodology beyond saying selections were based on reviews.

BUCKSCO Today resurfaced the ranking on Sept. 8, drawing fresh attention to the recognition. The Islands piece was originally published in March.

The Doylestown Arts Festival runs Saturday, Sept. 12, and Sunday, Sept. 13, with nearly 50 bands and more than 170 juried artists set up downtown. Admission is free.
