The Buckingham Democrats are calling for Supervisor Jon Forest to resign after he admitted fabricating claims in a 2023 campaign flyer. The party wants Forest to leave both his supervisor seat and his elected constable post.

The call for resignation, which the party posted on its Facebook page in August, urged residents to press the issue at the Buckingham Township Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 26. Forest has served on the board since 2006 and holds the title of vice chairman.

As we reported Aug. 28, Forest settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Chip Froehlich, owner of Froehlich's Farm & Garden Inc., and longtime resident and farmer Brian Stover. The suit, filed in 2024, was resolved without trial.

The case centered on a flyer Forest mailed to about 135 Republican households in October 2023, ahead of that year's election. The flyer accused fellow Supervisor Mike Bateman of offering to defend Froehlich's Farm at township hearings in exchange for electoral support.

Forest has acknowledged those conversations never happened.

In a public apology issued Aug. 10 as part of the settlement terms, Forest stated that he erroneously accused Froehlich's Farm of corruption and quid pro quo behavior based on conversations that never occurred, according to the Bucks County Beacon. He also acknowledged falsely claiming Bateman attended a hearing to support the farm in exchange for electoral backing and fabricating an overheard conversation between Bateman and a Froehlich's Farm representative.

The settlement requires Forest to send the corrected statement to the same roughly 135 households that received the original flyer.

Bateman, who was not a party to the lawsuit, said the settlement sets the record straight.

"The truth matters, particularly in a small community where words can have a lasting impact on our neighbors and their reputations," Bateman said, according to CentralBucksNow. He added that he takes no pleasure in the circumstances but is grateful the truth is part of the public record.

Bateman lost to Forest in the 2023 election. He won a supervisor seat in 2025, defeating two-term incumbent Republican Paul Calderaio, according to the Beacon.

In Buckingham Township, supervisors serve six-year elected terms. No public record reviewed specifies when Forest's current term expires or whether his departure would trigger a special election or appointment process.

CentralBucksNow reported that efforts to reach Forest for comment were unsuccessful.
