Ella Drobish, a 7-year-old Buckingham Elementary School student, is helping prepare candles for the 25th anniversary candlelight vigil at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield.

Drobish, a member of Girl Scout Troop 21139, is readying the memorial site for two ceremonies on Friday, Sept. 11, the Bucks County Herald reported. The Garden of Reflection, at 1950 Woodside Road in Yardley, is Pennsylvania's official memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It honors 18 Bucks County residents killed that day, nine of them from Lower Makefield.

A morning ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m., according to Lower Makefield Township. The ceremony follows the timeline of the 2001 attacks, with a memorial bell tolling at each significant moment and the names of all Pennsylvanians killed read aloud, the Herald's events guide reported.

An evening ceremony starts at 5 p.m. and ends before sunset with a candle-lighting honoring those who lost their lives.

Among the speakers at the morning ceremony is Tara Bane, whose husband Michael was 33 when he was killed in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. He worked on the 100th floor. Michael Bane was an assistant vice president at Marsh & McLennan, which had offices in the tower.

Bane helped create the Garden of Reflection and has a bench there bearing Michael's name beneath a cherry tree. She released a memoir this summer titled "Evolution of a Heart: From the Darkness of 9/11 to Rebuilding a Life and Finding Joy."

"I have a wonderful life right now. I have great people in my life. But Michael is in my thoughts often still, so I've just had to figure out how to live with that grief and not have it consume me," Bane told the New Hope News in an Aug. 25 interview.

Other local figures shaped by that day include Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Joseph Kelly, who was a sergeant with the New Jersey Transit Police on Sept. 11, 2001, and Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie, who was teaching at Bucks County Technical High School when the attacks occurred.

Judi Reiss of Lower Makefield lost her son Joshua, 23, who worked on a top floor of the North Tower.

Coming up: Bane holds a book talk and signing at Newtown Bookshop, 2120 S. Eagle Road, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17. The Garden of Reflection 5K and 10K race takes place Sept. 20 at the memorial site, with organizers aiming to raise about $30,000.
