Central Bucks West's field hockey team shut out Souderton 2-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at War Memorial Field in Doylestown, pushing the Bucks' record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Suburban One League Colonial Division play.

Zola Morelli broke a scoreless tie with 3:16 left before halftime. On a penalty corner, Morelli inserted the ball, Claire Demmer's shot deflected off a Souderton defender, and Morelli put the rebound into the cage.

"We had a lot of good momentum going into it, but I think we were a little frantic … It was frustrating, but felt good to get one in finally," Morelli told the Times Herald.

CB West controlled play throughout. The Bucks held a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners and put five shots on cage in the first quarter alone without scoring.

Souderton sophomore goalkeeper Rylee DeSimone kept the Indians close with 16 saves. CB West goalkeeper Bella Craig faced zero shots.

Heidi Schoenleber added an insurance goal with 2:19 left in the game. She gained possession to the right of the cage during a penalty corner and shot into the far-side top corner from a tough angle.

Souderton's Cameron Bauer made a defensive save in the fourth quarter after a CB West shot got past DeSimone, keeping the score at 1-0 at that point.

Souderton head coach Sue Casciato praised DeSimone's performance after the loss, noting the sophomore has room to grow. Casciato said her team is dealing with injuries and starting three freshmen. Souderton fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in SOL Colonial play.

CB West faces rival Central Bucks East on Friday, Sept. 18, to close the first round of league games. Souderton hosts North Penn the same day.
