Doylestown Borough Hall is collecting nonperishable food donations through Friday, Sept. 25, with all items headed to the New Britain Food Pantry in Warrington Township.
The drive marks Dolly Parton Day, observed nationally on Sept. 25. The date nods to Parton's hit song "9 to 5." Parton died Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer, ABC 7 reported. Dozens of municipalities and at least one state have since declared Sept. 25 in her honor, according to ABC News.
Residents can drop off unopened, nonperishable food items during business hours at Borough Hall, 10 Doyle St., Patch reported. According to Patch, communities across the country are marking the day with service projects honoring Parton's philanthropy.
The donations will benefit a pantry in the middle of a growth phase. The New Britain Food Pantry reopened Sept. 9 at 3400 Pickertown Road in Warrington Township, inside the former Mill Creek School building. The building, which opened as a school in 1928, is owned by Warrington Township. The volunteer-run pantry had operated for years on Butler Avenue in New Britain Borough before the move.
The pantry served more than 311 families and logged 8,519 guest visits in 2025, the organization reported to Central Bucks Now. Each visit provides enough groceries for about seven to 10 days. No one is turned away or questioned.
The organization runs entirely on volunteers.
Executive Director Cindy Field said Sept. 9, when the pantry reopened at its new location, that the move brought "mixed emotions because of the many years of ministry and service that took place at our Butler Avenue location." She called it "an opportunity to strengthen our services and reach even more neighbors in need" across the Central Bucks and New Hope-Solebury communities.
