Doylestown Cemetery needs volunteers and $17 wreath sponsors before a Dec. 19 ceremony honoring more than 1,000 veterans buried on its grounds.

The effort, first reported by TAPinto Doylestown in a story summarized by Patch's AM newsletter, calls on residents to sponsor wreaths and help place them on veterans' graves that Saturday morning. The Wreaths Across America ceremony begins at 9 a.m. at the cemetery, 215 East Court St.

More than 1,000 wreaths still need sponsors, according to the cemetery's Wreaths Across America page. Each wreath costs $17.

The cemetery's WAA page says all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Volunteers are asked to register through the WAA website so they receive updates about the ceremony. Cleanup help is also needed after the event.

Parking is available on the cemetery grounds, though the narrow internal roads do not allow two-way traffic, and drivers parked inside may not be able to leave until cars ahead of them move. Street parking is also available on Court Street and nearby side streets between Spruce Street and East Street.

Wreaths Across America, a national nonprofit founded in 2007, coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 5,500 locations across the country. Residents who want to sponsor a wreath or sign up to volunteer can visit the Doylestown Cemetery page on the organization's website.
