A free program at Doylestown Borough Hall on Saturday, Sept. 19, will explore the roles women played during the American Revolution.
The Doylestown Historical Society's "Women in the Revolution" runs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at 10 Doyle St. Seating is limited, and the society suggests registering in advance through its events page.
Tina Nunn, chapter historian for the Bucks County Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), will open the afternoon. Nunn plans to discuss the origins of the DAR and a hands-on project the local chapter has taken on: cleaning gravestones of Revolutionary War veterans buried in the area, Patch reported.
Historian and storyteller Meredith Barnes follows with stories of women whose contributions during the war have been largely forgotten. According to the society's event listing, the program will explore "the crucial, dangerous, and diverse roles women played during the American Revolutionary War."
The event is part of the society's "Doylestown Celebrates USA 250" series, a lineup of lectures, walking tours, guided tours, reenactments and storytelling events the organization launched in October 2025 to mark the nation's 250th anniversary. Programming runs through December 2026.
The day before, on Friday, Sept. 18, the society is also hosting a Storytime event at the Doylestown Bookshop featuring a reading of "Leave It to Abigail!: The Revolutionary Life of Abigail Adams" by Donna Brown.
Admission to Saturday's program is free.
