CBS News correspondent Robert Costa will return to Bucks County on Wednesday, Sept. 23, to accept the Herald Foundation's Excellence in Journalism Award.

The honor comes at the Bucks County Herald Foundation's fifth annual "Happy to Be Here" fundraiser, scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. at the Michener Art Museum, 138 S. Pine St. in Doylestown. The event falls during Constitution Week, and organizers said this year's gathering will spotlight freedom of the press, according to the Bucks County Herald.

Costa has deep Bucks County roots. He grew up in Lower Makefield Township, graduated from Pennsbury High School in 2004 and got his start covering local bands for the Bucks County Courier Times as a teenager.

He is now chief Washington analyst for CBS News and a national correspondent for "CBS News Sunday Morning." He and Bob Woodward co-authored "Peril," a No. 1 New York Times bestseller, according to his CBS News biography. Costa and his "Sunday Morning" colleagues won an Emmy in 2023 for Outstanding Recorded News Program.

In August 2025, the National Press Club named Costa the recipient of its Fourth Estate Award, the club's highest honor. Costa said at the time that he appreciated "the Club's recognition of journalism that has been collaborative at every turn, from my work in print to my current endeavors at CBS News and 'Sunday Morning.'"

The Herald Foundation, a nonprofit that funds the Bucks County Herald's community journalism, described the fundraiser as bringing together business and civic leaders, philanthropists and friends of the paper. Bridget Wingert, the Herald's founding editor, chairs the foundation's board of directors.

The foundation lost founding board member Marvin "Marv" Woodall in August after a short illness. Wingert said in an Aug. 3 tribute that Woodall's "business acumen was guiding the Herald Foundation board and its finance committee" even in his final days.

@costareports: "I've been calling Mr. Nader to get his take on policy since I was 17. I still remember being stunned as a local kid reporter that he'd take the call and offer in-depth takes on policy after policy affecting my town."

Costa posted that reflection on X on Aug. 16, recalling his early days reporting in Bucks County.

Ticket and registration details had not been posted to public listings as of Sept. 4. The fundraiser runs 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown.
