Doylestown Bookshop will host a free horror-themed open mic night and Halloween bash on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its downtown location on South Main Street.

The event is a partnership with Fright Lines, a horror literary open mic series organized by Patrick Lombardi that rotates among venues throughout October, according to Patch. Local writers and performers can sign up on site starting at 5:30 p.m. for a five-minute slot to read original horror stories, dark poetry, monologues or flash fiction in front of a live audience. Only 20 spots are available before a waitlist kicks in, according to the Fright Lines website, so organizers recommend arriving early.

Spots are first come, first served.

Beyond the open mic, the evening doubles as a Halloween party with horror trivia, scavenger hunts, giveaways and light refreshments. Costumes are encouraged. The event is free to attend and free to perform in, though donations may be accepted to support local venues and artists, according to the Fright Lines site.

Fright Lines asks that all original work carry a horror, supernatural, gothic or dark theme. Acoustic musical performances are also welcome within the five-minute limit. Organizers note the content is geared toward ages 16 and older and may include mature or frightening themes.

The Oct. 30 stop at Doylestown Bookshop, 16 S. Main St., wraps up the series' October run. Fright Lines also hosts events on every Friday the 13th, with a Nov. 13 date listed as to be determined on its schedule. Residents can follow @FrightLinesMic on Instagram, Facebook and Threads for updates.
