Active-duty military personnel get free admission to the Mercer Museum year-round. At least eight downtown Doylestown businesses also offer discounts through the Bucks County Veterans Discount Card.

The Mercer Museum's ticket page lists free admission for active-duty service members and up to six family members with a valid military ID. Standard adult admission is $20. Veterans and retired military members receive 50 percent off an adult ticket. The online discount codes are MILITARY and VETERAN.

The museum, a six-story concrete castle at 84 S. Pine St., is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Its current exhibition, "The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution," runs through Dec. 31 and is included with admission.

Bucks County runs a separate Veterans Discount Card program for county veterans and active-duty personnel. Cards are issued by appointment through the county's Military Affairs office at 215-345-3885. Participating businesses display a window sticker, and the full vendor list is posted on the county website.

Among the downtown Doylestown businesses in the program, Patch reported that Bacco Bistro at 478 N. Main St. offers 20 percent off, The Hattery Stove & Still at 18 W. State St. offers 15 percent off, and The Doylestown Bookshop at 16 S. Main St. offers 10 percent off books. Additional participating Doylestown shops include Jules Thin Crust, Paganini Ristorante, Siren Records, Bucks County Running Company and Aunt Judy's Family Restaurant, with discounts of 10 percent.

The county program extends well beyond downtown. Restaurants, retailers, service providers and attractions throughout Bucks County participate. Veterans should call ahead to confirm current discounts and required identification.

Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The Mercer Museum will be open its regular hours that day.
