Noah Haaz, a sixth-grader at Tohickon Middle School, spent more than 40 hours building a Little Free Library for Groveland Elementary School. The project replaced a structure that fell apart during harsh weather in winter 2025-26.

Haaz, a member of Boy Scout Troop 169, designed and built the library as part of his woodworking merit badge, the Bucks County Herald first reported Thursday, Sept. 24. He painted it purple and gold to match the colors of his former elementary school, which serves 649 students in grades K-5 on North Easton Road.

The project grew out of the Maker's Club at Groveland, a new program run by school parent Joshua Kelly. Haaz joined the club in spring 2026 and built a toolbox and a bench that was placed outside the school. When he crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts, the woodworking merit badge was a natural fit.

Local woodworker Mike Bugowski mentored Haaz through the build during summer 2026. Bugowski, whom Haaz calls "Mister Mike," walked him through each step, helped him safely operate power tools and gave him room to make his own design choices.

Haaz made the library ADA compliant so every Groveland student could use it.

For the grand opening, the library's first book was Dr. Seuss' "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" A dedication plaque carries the Seuss quote: "The more that you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Haaz was photographed with Groveland Principal Michael Testani at the opening, the Herald reported.

"Noah loves to learn and travel, so this quote resonated with him," his mother, Dawn Haaz, told the Herald.

She said she hopes the project inspires other children to read and to understand the value of giving back to their community. The library is open and stocked at Groveland Elementary, 1100 N. Easton Road.
