A Levittown man faces a felony aggravated assault charge after police say he knocked down and restrained an officer in Doylestown Borough.
Joshua Alexander Leedie, 24, was arrested Oct. 31, according to a Central Bucks Regional Police Department release published Nov. 2.
Police said Leedie was not involved in a fight between two women on West State Street. After officers took the women into custody, he allegedly rushed an officer, pinned him down and held an arm around his neck.
He ignored commands to release the officer and gripped his gear and uniform, police said. After being handcuffed, Leedie repeatedly kicked a patrol vehicle’s door, according to the release.
Police listed aggravated assault as a second-degree felony, simple assault and resisting arrest as second-degree misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct for fighting as a third-degree misdemeanor. Leedie also faces public drunkenness, a summary offense under Pennsylvania law.
Bail was set at 10% of $75,000, or $7,500, and Leedie was initially remanded to Bucks County Prison, police said.
Lower Bucks Source reported Nov. 3 that a bondsman secured his release the same day and that he was due back in court Nov. 9, citing online court records.
The charges are allegations. Leedie is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
