Three Central Bucks School District seniors each earned a $1,000 scholarship from Foundations Community Partnership (FCP), the Doylestown-based nonprofit announced Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Megan Fahey of CB East, Emma Kurtzman of CB South and Harrison Cornwell of CB West were among 25 Bucks County high school graduates who each received $1,000. Fahey will attend Boston College, Kurtzman heads to Kutztown University and Cornwell is bound for the University of Virginia.

School administrators and guidance counselors at every public, technical and charter high school in the county nominated students based on community service, academic performance and character. Volunteering at nonprofits serving Bucks County carried extra weight, according to Patch, which first reported the full list of recipients.

"Recognizing these outstanding student leaders serves as encouragement to all to work toward positive change in our communities," Falesha Grasty, FCP's board chair, said in the announcement.

The 25 recipients include four nursing-specific awards co-sponsored by Capital Health for students pursuing undergraduate nursing degrees: Matyson Leber of Council Rock North, Kacie Donahue of Council Rock South, CeAzia Vaughan of Morrisville Senior High School and Sophia Asencio of Pennsbury High School. Other co-sponsors included First Bank, Penn Community Bank, St. Luke's University Health Network and one anonymous donor.

FCP, headquartered at 1456 Ferry Road in Doylestown, has supported youth behavioral health and human services in Bucks County since 2007. Its programs include grants to nonprofits, college service-learning internships and the Summer Youth Corps, through which 228 college students have logged 65,664 service hours since 2008.

The scholarships arrive as Central Bucks students prepare to return to class. The first day of school for kindergarten, sixth-, seventh-, ninth- and 10th-graders is Monday, Aug. 31; all other students start Tuesday, Sept. 1.
