The Doylestown Historical Society will host a colonial brewing and tasting event on Sunday, Oct. 18, the latest in the organization's yearlong "Doylestown Celebrates USA 250!" series.
"Colonial Brewer: Revolutionary Libations" runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the society's grounds at 56 S. Main St. Tickets cost $35 per person. No walk-ins are permitted. Attendees must be 21 or older.
Michael Carver, a brewer with a background in chemistry known as the Regimental Brewmeister, will lead the afternoon. Carver has been brewing since 1994 and has presented on historic cocktails and colonial brewing traditions throughout the tri-state area, according to Patch.
His presentation will cover what colonists actually drank: beer, cider, rum and applejack for the working classes, and imported madeira, sherry and Holland gin for the wealthy. Guests can also expect a sampling of colonial stew with cornbread and time on the grounds of Doylestown Historical Society Park, according to the society's event page.
The Oct. 18 event follows an Oct. 8 author talk by Becky Libourel Diamond, who discussed her book "City Tavern: The Founding Table" at the Doylestown Historical Society Barn. The USA 250 series launched in October 2025 and has run for roughly a year, drawing a formal proclamation from Doylestown Borough Council at its July 20 meeting.
"Doylestown had a significant role in the 1700s, which is the impetus for a lot of our events throughout the year," Ron Strouse, a leader of Doylestown Celebrates, said in a June interview with New Hope News.
Executive Director Mary-jo May accepted the borough's recognition on behalf of the society's volunteers and board at the July 20 council meeting. Central Bucks News reported that May told council members the borough's support had "made our celebrations so special."
Tickets for the Oct. 18 event are available through the Doylestown Historical Society's website or Eventbrite. The society's full schedule of upcoming USA 250 events is listed at doylestownhistorical.org.
