The New Britain Food Pantry moved three miles south to Warrington Township, and Executive Director Cindy Field says some neighbors mistakenly believe it shut down.
The volunteer-run nonprofit left its longtime home at 22 E. Butler Ave. in New Britain Borough after a final day of service Aug. 12. It reopened at 3400 Pickertown Road, inside the former Mill Creek School building owned by Warrington Township.
"Since our move, we've heard from neighbors who thought we had closed, or who assumed they had to live in New Britain to get help," Field told Patch. "We're here, our doors are open, and if you live in Central Bucks or New Hope-Solebury, we want to see you."
The pantry serves anyone facing food insecurity in the Central Bucks or New Hope-Solebury school districts. That covers Doylestown Borough and Township, Buckingham, New Britain, Chalfont, Warrington, Warwick, Plumstead, New Hope and Solebury.
In 2025, the organization provided groceries to more than 311 families across 8,519 guest visits, according to Central Bucks Now. The pantry has operated entirely on volunteer labor since 1991. No one on staff draws a salary.
Inside the new space
The Mill Creek School building opened in 1928 and served as a school until 1951. It later became Warrington Township's municipal building and at one point housed kindergarten classes when Titus Elementary was overcrowded.
Renovations opened up interior walls so volunteers can move through the building more easily while filling food orders. Volunteer Bill Field oversaw the project, coordinating contractors, scheduling inspections and doing some of the work himself.
The pantry launched a fundraising drive in summer 2026 to stock the new facility and cover moving costs, including relocating its walk-in freezer for perishable food storage.
What guests receive
Each visit provides seven to 10 days of groceries chosen by the guest: frozen beef, pork or chicken; eggs, butter and cheese; fresh produce; pantry staples; and paper products. Personal care items are available every other month, and laundry detergent every three months when supplies allow.
Families may visit up to twice a month. First-time guests need only proof of address in either school district. Guests are asked to bring their own bags.
How to help
The pantry's most-needed items include coffee, tea, hot chocolate, pancake mix and syrup, boxed cereal, condiments, snacks, canned fruit, sugar, flour, oil and canned protein. No tuna or beans are needed right now. Household needs include deodorant, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent and cleaning products.
Non-perishable food can be dropped off around the clock in the shed at 3400 Pickertown Road. Fresh produce is accepted during pantry hours. Financial donations can be made at newbritainfoodpantry.org/ways-to-help.
