A New York man who robbed six banks across three suburban Philadelphia counties will spend up to 18 years in state prison after being sentenced Wednesday, at the Bucks County Justice Center in Doylestown.
Bucks County Common Pleas President Judge Raymond F. McHugh ordered Marc Masich, 48, of Amherst, N.Y., to serve consecutive terms of 18 to 36 months for each of six robbery counts, totaling nine to 18 years. McHugh also ordered $20,255 in restitution and a no-contact order covering the six financial institutions and six bank employees Masich targeted.
Masich pleaded no contest to one felony robbery charge and guilty to five additional felony counts of robbery-inflicting or threatening serious bodily injury during a May 14 court appearance, according to Central Bucks Now.
The robbery spree unfolded in late 2024 across Bucks, Montgomery and Delaware counties. Masich hit Santander Bank locations in Middletown Township and Montgomery Township, a Truist Bank in Newtown Square, and three Bensalem locations on Dec. 23, 2024: TD Bank on Street Road (attempted), Santander Bank on Street Road (he fled when asked to remove his mask), and PNC Bank on Hulmeville Road, where he handed a teller a demand note reading, "Give me all the money in your drawer and make sure it does not have any trackers in it."
The teller handed over roughly $4,000. Masich stuffed the cash into a white "Bank of America" bag he had brought along and was caught by Bensalem Township police officers in the parking lot.
The break came from Middletown Township Detective Jake Gallagher, who recognized Masich's black Nissan sedan from a Dec. 12, 2024, robbery and radioed Bensalem police.
"I'm proud of our detective, Jake Gallagher's, quick recognition of the suspect vehicle and the collaborative effort that helped bring a dangerous serial bank robber to justice," Middletown Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said in a statement.
Masich was formally charged on Christmas Eve 2024 and has been held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility since then on 10 percent of $2 million bail.
District Attorney Joe Khan called the outcome "the direct result of exceptional inter-agency teamwork," according to the Bucks County DA's office. No future court dates or appeals have been announced.
