Doylestown Township residents who got rained out of the Bon Jovi tribute concert on Aug. 5 get a second chance Monday night. Slippery When Wet, the only Bon Jovi tribute band officially authorized by Bon Jovi's management, takes the C&N Amphitheater at Central Park at 7 p.m. Aug. 17. Admission is free.
The makeup date caps a summer concert series that has already lost one act to weather. The Beatles tribute band Studio Two was canceled outright on July 15 because of an extreme heat warning with a forecast heat index of 107 degrees. Doylestown Township said in a July 13 post that it could not reschedule Studio Two this season. Slippery When Wet's postponement, by contrast, got a new date.
The band, fronted by vocalist Jason Morey, has logged more than 2,300 shows across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean since forming in 2003. According to Patch, comedian Dave Chappelle once mistook Morey for the real Jon Bon Jovi and invited him backstage after a show. That encounter helped launch the tribute act, which earned Bon Jovi's management authorization in 2007 and was later selected to perform on Jon Bon Jovi's "Runaway to Paradise" cruises.
Expect hits including "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Wanted Dead or Alive" and "It's My Life."
Beyond the music, Warwick Farm Brewing runs the beer garden and food trucks will line the venue at 425 Wells Road.
Two free DART buses leave at 6 p.m. Bus No. 1 departs the ACME market at Doylestown Shopping Center and makes stops at Center Square Towers, Broad and Union, State and Main, The Metropolitan and Colonial Heritage before arriving at Central Park at 6:30 p.m. Bus No. 2 departs Grundy Hall, stops at The Metropolitan at 6:15 p.m. and reaches the park at 6:30 p.m.
Parking is available inside Central Park after 5 p.m. (limited), at the Community Recreation Center lot, the New Britain Road entrance and the Kutz Elementary School lot.
