Doylestown Township high schoolers can now apply to sit on six official township boards and committees, getting a direct role in local government decisions on parks, trails, veterans' services and more.
The township posted the opening on Sunday, Aug. 16, inviting residents ages 16 to 18 to serve as youth members on the Bike & Hike Committee, Environmental Advisory Council, Human Relations Commission, Park & Recreation Board, Telecommunications Advisory Board and Veterans Advisory Committee.
The program is not new. Charles Crosland currently serves as a youth member on the Bike & Hike Committee, according to the township's website. But the township is actively recruiting for open seats heading into the school year.
Who qualifies
Applicants must live in Doylestown Township and attend a Central Bucks School District high school, a private school or a parochial high school. They must be between 16 and 18 years old.
What's required
A complete application has three parts:
- A written statement of interest
- One letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator or community leader
- A parent or guardian consent letter

Each board meets regularly and advises the Board of Supervisors on issues within its scope, from trail planning to environmental policy to telecommunications infrastructure.
