Veterans of wars spanning nearly two centuries rest beneath the grounds of Grace Church Cemetery in New Britain. On Thursday, Aug. 27, their stories get told out loud.

The Doylestown Historic Society will present "Voices From Beneath Our Feet," a free outdoor program beginning at 6 p.m. at Grace Church of Doylestown (formerly New Britain Baptist Church), 22 E. Butler Ave., New Britain, according to a listing on Patch. The evening is part of Doylestown Celebrates USA 250, the local commemoration of the nation's 250th anniversary.

Attendees will hear about people buried at the church grounds, including veterans of the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and the World Wars, along with ordinary citizens who shaped early New Britain. According to a June report in the Doylestown Observer, 33 Revolutionary War veterans alone are buried at the site.

Ron Strouse, speaking on behalf of Doylestown Celebrates in June, said the broader programming series aims to surface overlooked local history: "Lots of us have lived here a long time and are still discovering new things about our history. …"

The program is outdoors. Organizers ask attendees to bring their own chairs and sit outside the old cemetery walls for the presentation.

Coming up in the USA 250 series: Doylestown Celebrates is also producing a documentary exploring the community's history from Indigenous settlement through the Revolutionary War and Civil War eras, expected to premiere at the County Theater in November.
