A Philadelphia man already facing felony charges for shoplifting at a Doylestown supermarket now faces a second felony after Central Bucks Regional Police say he stole a utility vehicle from a North Main Street business.

Wallace Bowens, 39, of the 13000 block of Bustleton Avenue, was charged with felony receiving stolen property after officers recovered a white Polaris Ranger 570 EFI behind Salem Church at 186 E. Court St. on Thursday, Aug. 13, according to a criminal complaint filed by Central Bucks Regional Police.

Police were dispatched at about 8:31 a.m. to Eagle Power Kubota at 697 N. Main St. after the company's service manager discovered the Polaris missing. The vehicle had been dropped off July 24 for service, and employees found it gone while preparing to return it to its owner that morning.

Two Kubota tractors that had been parked behind the Polaris were found pushed together, police said. Investigators alleged someone moved the tractors to access the utility vehicle.

After leaving Eagle Power Kubota, officers spotted a man operating a white Polaris on Church Street after it turned from East State Street. They later found the vehicle unoccupied behind Salem Church, roughly a quarter-mile from where it was stolen.

Police saw Bowens walking along the sidewalk in front of the church and detained him. During a search, officers found him carrying a black key ring with a Polaris key attached. A tag on the ring displayed the vehicle owner's name and the words "Master Key," police said.

The key matched.

Investigators checked the vehicle identification number beneath the Polaris' hood and confirmed it was the one reported stolen from Eagle Power Kubota. The service manager also reported new damage to the driver-side fender.

The vehicle's owner told investigators Bowens did not have permission to operate the Polaris.

Second felony in two weeks

The Aug. 13 incident marks Bowens' second felony charge in Doylestown in roughly two weeks. As we reported Aug. 10, police charged him with felony retail theft and receiving stolen property after he allegedly left the Acme Market at 480 N. Main St. without paying $12.18 for a baking pan on July 30. That charge was elevated to a felony based on his prior retail theft history, according to the criminal complaint.

Bowens is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. No court date or bail information was available in the criminal complaint. Both cases remain pending in Bucks County court.
